Defending champions Zonipang SA scraped through closely contested semi-final match with a 7-6 tie-breaker win over SSS Yellow at the ongoing MDFA Trophy 2018 at Imkongmeren Sports Complex Mokokchung on October 24.
It was SSS Yellow who struck first in the match through a brilliant moral boosting goal from their young player Toshiwapang in the 19th minute. However, two minutes before the whistle, Ketho Zhapo of Zonipang SA equalized the goal ending the first half in 1-1 stalemate.
When the match resumed in the second half, both side concentrated more on defense resulting in 1-1 draw till the official 90th minute of the game.
An extra time of 14 minutes was played but both the teams failed to score any goal. The defending champions were troubled by the quick and untiring SSS Yellow players till the last whistle.
A tie-breaker penalty shootout ended in 7-6 win for Zonipang SA, with their custodian Mangyanger literally saving the day by stopping the 7th seventh goal of the shootout.
Zonipang will face either the crowd favorite, Intermingle club or the consistent Telongjem FC in the finals.
