NAGALAND MRVC: Need efforts to reach all eligible children

Children from GMS Duncan Ao and Lotha, Dimapur show their Measles-Rubella Vaccination certificate during the campaign held recently.

Kohima, November 1 (MExN): Continuing the appeal to achieve the target of 95% coverage under the Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign I Himato Zhimomi, Principal Secretary to the Government of Nagaland today stated in a press release that “as per latest data we have been able to vaccinate only 86.97%.”

Stating “95% coverage is very important to ensure that the viruses do not get a chance to circulate and keep infecting our children,” he appealed that “We need to continue our efforts to reach all eligible children in the next few days.”

“We all have a responsibility to lead by example,” he stated and also issued names of point person and contact number to clear your doubts. “Let us all have a common vision and ensure a healthy future for our children,” he appealed.

He highlighted that the initial weeks of the campaign were conducted in schools where the programme faced problems due to reluctance of parents for various reasons. After intensive advocacy, many parents have come forward to get their children vaccinated. “Yet a few parents have been refusing to vaccinate their children due to false rumors and misinformation.”

Therefore, the Principal Secretary has made a request to all to “please come forward and get every child vaccinated. The campaign dose is being given irrespective of previous vaccination with Measles/MMR or history of previous illness with Measles/Rubella.”

While stating that the Campaign aims to rapidly build the immunity of the population against measles and rubella by vaccinating the most vulnerable age group of 9 months to 15 years, he said, “I am happy to note that so far 3,90,103 children have been vaccinated out of a target of 4,48,504.”

“This is the result of good cooperation of all stake holders and coordinated efforts of Health, Education, WCD and other Departments development partners, religious leaders and village leaders,” he added.
