2005 – An explosion ripped through the state-owned Dongfeng coal mine in China’s northeastern Heilongjiang province, killing 171 miners.
2006 – Democratic Republic of Congo’s Supreme Court declared Joseph Kabila president, confirming his election victory.
2009 – Bomb causes Russian Nevsky Express train to crash near the village of Uglovka, killing dozens of people.
2013 – World’s largest Chanukah menorah marks the start of the holiday season in New York.
