Congress legislator and former minister Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh said on Monday that had the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government in the state not been in a denial mode, the tragic incident of 15 miners getting trapped in the Ksan area of the East Jaintia Hills, would not have occurred. The December 13 incident when 15 workers in a rat-hole mine went missing, has once again turned the spotlight on the question of illegal mining in the state and its impact on the ecology.
