Fear continues to grip the valley districts and adjoining areas in Manipur as unknown “predators” continue to attack live-stocks even as official sought the assistance of the police cyber wing to curb circulation of unverified photographs and videos on various social media platforms.

According to reports, five ducks were found killed at Awang Khunou Mayai Leikai yesterday afternoon. Meanwhile, a woman was admitted to a hospital after an unknown creature allegedly attacked her last evening. Reports said that the 23-years old resident of Khurai Heikrumakhong in Imphal East district was reportedly attacked by an unknown creature while she was going to toilet. She was treated at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal. There were scratch marks in her arms, according to the reports.

On Friday last, another cow was found killed near Motbung area. With this, two cows have been killed reportedly by mysterious predators so far. It can be mentioned here that killings of domestic animals by unknown “predators” were first reported in the month of October. Later the killings spread to Imphal East district, Kakching district, Bishenpur district, Imphal West district and Kangpokpi district. The Forest department is investigating the matter but so far it could not establish any fact.

Clarifying on the series of attacks by unknown “predators” in the State, Manipur Chief Minister, N Biren Singh today appealed to the people not to panic. He mentioned that the DFOs and Police officials have been instructed to take preventive and precautionary measures for the public safety. Wooden cages have been set up to trap the unidentified animal at various places, he mentioned.

Meanwhile, the Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Government of Manipur, has proposed a District Level Task Force to take stock of the situation. Several rounds of fake news are doing the rounds creating a situation of panic among the public. In this regard, the Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) have written to the Director General of Police, Government of Manipur to instruct the cyber wings to watch and control the spread of fake news.
