Rabi Campaign launched in Manipur

With an objective to help the farmers to increase their productivity and achieve higher yield of various crops during Rabi season, the Chief Minister N Biren Singh today launched the ‘Rabi Campaign 2018’ at Haotal Pangei, Imphal East.

 

The Chief Minister said that the launching of Rabi campaign would have positive impact on the economy of the State. He mentioned that he would personally monitor the updates and improvement of the initiative every week. He stated that the government, private agencies and farmers need to work collectively so as to increase the production of agricultural and allied products. The government is planning to provide 100 percent subsidy to the deserving farmers on providing loans and procurement of machineries, he informed. A new policy for the welfare of the farmers would be announced soon, he added.

 

The Chief Minister stated that we need to discuss on why Manipur is still lagging behind in various sectors as compared to other States. The government is working tirelessly to uplift the lives of the people and to bring positive changes in the State. It is the vision of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to double farmers’ income by 2022 in the country. Such initiative would definitely increase in the economy of the State and also make the farmers’ as self reliant and self sustained, he continued.

 

Highlighting the huge talents and potentials of the people in every sector, the Chief Minister opined that if we work with transparency, honesty and sincerity, Manipur would become one of the best regions in the world. Chief Minister opined that the present government has already implemented various welfare schemes for the people of the State. Among the schemes, the “Go to Village” scheme is one such initiative to provide good governance at the grassroots.

 

Mentioning that around 36 percent of the population comprised BPL families, Biren urged the government officials to work with transparency and sincerity so that these people would be benefited from various Government schemes. “When we fulfill the aspirations and dreams of the people then the blessings of the people will shower upon us”, he mentioned.

 

Minister for Agriculture V Hangkhanlian said that there are around 2.34 lakh hectares of cultivable land available in the State. However, large portion of land is being unused during off season, he added. He continued that we must find solutions for the optimal usage of such land. The Minister further stated that the Agriculture department is working tirelessly to double the farmers’ income by 2022.

 

The Chief Minister also inspected the machineries which were put on exhibition for the farmers.

 

The launching function of Rabi Campaign and Agriculture Equipment Exhibition was organized jointly by Department of Agriculture and Manipur Farm Enterprise Private Limited.
