The Coordination Committee of the Tribal Organizations of Assam (CCOTOA) on Thursday demanded that the Union home minister Amit Shah and the high-level committee to implement Clause 6 of the Assam Accord should ensure that the relevant constitutional safeguards proposed under the clause should not just cover the Assamese community but also the indigenous tribal people of the state. This, they suggested, can be done by replacing the term 'Assamese people' in the Assam Accord with 'Assamese and indigenous tribal people of Assam'.
