At first glance, it looked like just another graduating day event with the dignitaries on stage and students lining up to receive their degrees. It was a choice of tradition over custom as for its 28th convocation on Monday, Gauhati University (GU) decided to turn on the 'desi' flavour with khadi convocation dresses replacing western gowns which are now considered to be a part of 'colonial legacy'.from
