Assam's mining town Margherita in Tinsukia district, popularly known as the "Coal Queen of Assam", erupted in protests on Friday over the suspension of mining operations by North Eastern Coalfields (NEC). Hundreds of residents, employees and staff of NEC and activists of various organisations joined the protest rally which was organised at the Margherita central playground.
