State Finance Secretary hopeful of Commission understanding problems faced by the State on all fronts

Nagaland Finance Secretary, Y Kikheto Sema while stating that the State government is ready to host the 15th Finance Commission today expressed hope that the Commission will understand the problems faced by the State on all fronts.

 

The three-day official visit of the Fifteenth Finance Commission to Nagaland is scheduled from November 27 to 29, said Kikheto while addressing a press conference in the Conference Hall of Finance Department at Secretariat on Monday evening.

 

The Commission’s Chairman, Nand Kishore Singh and eleven officials will be arriving Kohima by helicopter tomorrow, he said.

 

On the same evening, the Commission will have meetings with representatives of the Rural Local Bodies, that is VCMs and VDBs and with representatives of the Urban Local Bodies and Tribal Hohos at Hotel Vivor.

 

On the November 28, the Commission will have its meetings with the Chief Minister and the State Government Officials in the morning, with representatives of the Political Parties at in the afternoon and with representatives of Trade, Industries & Commerce in the Conference Hall of the Chief Secretary, Nagaland Civil Secretariat.

 

On the third day of their visit, the Commission will make a field visit to Touphema Tourist Village in the morning and will then proceed to Imphal by helicopters.

 

He said that Nagaland government through the Finance Department has already submitted a memorandum to the commission and was hopeful of favourable response from the commission.

 

He said that besides presenting the fund requirement of the state for maintenance of existing infrastructure assets and requirement of funds for critical infrastructure, the memorandum also contains the details of disparity in development and its impact on state’s economy during the last 56 years.

 

The memorandum also highlighted that due to the change of funding pattern from 1989-90 onwards, the state faced problems even for release of the monthly pay and allowances of the state government employees.
