Nagaland observes Constitution Day

Kohima, November 26 (MExN): The Constitution Day commemorating the adoption of the Constitution of India was observed at Raj Bhavan Kohima on November 26 where Chief Secretary, Nagaland R. Binchilo Thong, IAS administered the pledge and delivered the opening remarks.

 

A press release from the PRO to Governor stated that the Chief Secretary said that the Preamble contains the aim and objectives of the Country and protects the whole philosophy and legislative intent of the Indian Constitution and added that the Constitution of India was the fundamental law of our land.

 

President, High Court Bar Association, Ashiphri Zho stated that the Indian Constitution is important in several dimensions as it is the noble and universal book for the people of India. It lays down the basic structure of the government under which its people are to be governed and establishes the main organs of the government – the executive, the legislature and the judiciary, he added. AshiphriZho said that the Indian Constitution was the supreme law of the people and guarantees individual freedom to all its citizens.

 

Senior Additional Advocate General, T.B. Jamir gave a brief note on how the Constitution Day came into being. He stated that prior to 2015, 26th November was observed as ‘Law Day’ however in 2015 the Government decided to celebrate the day as Constitution Day to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India. He also called on the need to pay homage and respect to the makers of the Constitution and to rededicate oneself to uphold the Constitution.

 

Home Commissioner and Commissioner & Secretary to the Governor, Ramakrishnan, IAS while delivering the vote of thanks stated that the Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya had instructed the State Government to observe the day in a befitting manner. The programme was attended by Advisor Law and Justice, Dr. Longrineken, Administrative Head of Departments, Head of Departments and other representatives of different organisations.
