St John College pledges to end violence against women

Dimapur, November 26 (MExN): St John College Dimapur commemorated the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 26 with pledge taking by male staffs and students committing to speak out, act and prevent gender based violence and to create violence free society.

 

Dr Janetius, Principal of St John College in his address highlighted on the significance and importance of the day. Jube, Member of Anti-ragging and Sexual Harassment Committee spoke about awareness on campus.

 

Gaurav, Assistant Professor English Department in his speech emphasized on violence of all forms, physical, mental, emotional, psychological, domestic and its manifestations. “Trans women and transgender are also women. Only biological sex does not decide one’s gender and gender is in one’s mind”, he added.

 

Yepuli 6th semester student spoke on behalf of women and girls. She identified various reasons behind crimes against women thus creating gender inequality. She further said, women may be poor hailing from lower classes, they may be mere domestic helps yet they all are daughters of a father and a mother and not objects for exploitation. She expressed a longing where each plays a role to make our land a safer place.

 

The program was chaired by Lhushelu, 6th semester student and the vote of thanks pronounced by N Esther Ezung HoD English Department.
