Tourism Advisor Khehovi updates Hornbill fest preparation, activities

Tourism and Art & Culture Advisor Khehovi Yepthomi today highlighted the activities for the forthcoming 10 days Hornbill Festival of Nagaland, starting from December 1.

 

He sought the support of each and every individual for the success of the Festival.

 

This time round, the festival will be spread over five districts of Kohima, Dimapur, Mokokchung, Phek and Wokha, the department officials said during a press conference here this afternoon.

 

Hornbill festival is an annual event that showcases Nagaland’s rich traditions and the vibrant cultural heritage in all its ethnicity, diversity and grandeur.

 

The festival bring together all the elements that make up Nagaland and its people.

 

The Naga Heritage village in Kisama about 10 km away from Kohima city brings together all Naga tribes in a celebratory mood as festivities are carried out in the tribal morungs with tourists, hosts, and visitors meeting, feasting and celebrating.

 

The event, known as the “Festival of Festivals” is named after the majestic Hornbill which is admired and revered by all the Nagas.

 

While preserving the cultural heritage of the Nagas, the Hornbill Festival celebrates the energy and vibrancy of the people, especially the youth, as dozens of events exemplify the creativity and innovation of the younger generation.

 

Other attractions of the 10 day festival would be Handloom and Handicrafts, craftscape, Hortiscape, Kids, carnival, Hipfest, Artist Corner, Hornbill International Photofest, Hornbill International Rock Festival, Traditional Evening Park, People’s Festival Khezhakeno in Phek district, Trekking and Hiking, Cultural show at Kisama ground, Cycle rally, Dzukou Winter Activities, Kohima Heritage walks, Hornbill Riders Meet, Hornbill Strongest and Fittest man, Cockfight, Folk Tune competition, stone pulling ceremony, Mokokchung mountain biking fest, One act play, Naga wrestling, Chilly eating competition, Naga Chef, World War-II Peace Rally, and many more.

 

Art & culture secretary Ahola Those said 17 cultural troupes from all the tribes of Nagaland will be participating in the Hornbill Festival which consist of 35 dancers and a total of 600 artists.

 

Two artist corners set up at Kohima and Dimapur, featuring workshops, demonstrations, sales and painting competitions with cash prizes for winners.

 

She said in the last edition, the WW II museum has registered 12,000 visitors.

 

Tourism additional director (HoD) Akhale Vizol expressed happiness that the department along with Nagaland Police has launched Nagaland tourist police today for the safety and security of tourists during Hornbill festival.
