Dimapur, December 2 (MExN): The 53rd annual session of Sangtam Baptist Youth Endeavour which began on November 30 under the theme, “Forward” culminated on Sunday at Kiphire Town Baptist Lithro.

Exhorting the gathering on Sunday morning, Secretary, Finance and Land Resources, Y Kikheto Sema, IAS spoke about the need to speak the truth at all times drawing reference from the Book of Matthews 5:37 which states, “All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No.’ Anything beyond this comes from the evil one.”

He pointed out that Nagas had all along been fighting each other since forefathers’ times and there was no time for socio economic development for future generation. The fight was not only among tribes but within also, he added.

However, Kikheto said that head hunting slowly stopped with the coming of British administration and mostly with the coming of American missionaries who brought the Gospel to Nagaland. He said it might have been the will of God to convert Nagas from head hunters to soul hunters.

Kikheto rued divisions in the Naga family where leaders talk about peace yet their actions turn it into pieces. “When there is no peace and unity, how can we move forward as a society?” he queried.

He made a fervent appeal to stop tribalism and let love for one another reign. Stating that the Bible preached about loving one another, loving neighbours and enemies, Kikheto said Sangtams, Yimchungers, Sumis or any other communities as neighbours cannot afford to hate each other even though they might regard one another as enemies. “If you think that your neighbour is your enemy, you still have to love him if we, as true Christians, abide by what is being taught from the Bible,” he said.

Speaking about Kiphire as an ‘aspirational district,’ he called upon the denizens to focus on what was uniquely being produced from the district. He urged the youngsters to prepare themselves for a new Nagaland to usher in peace and prosperity.
