New directorate office building of DUDA inaugurated

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today inaugurated the new directorate office building of Department of Under Developed Areas (DUDA) here near NPSC office, adjacent to Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) Secretariat.


Rio conceptualised the creation of DUDA in 2003 particularly for Tuensang, Mon, Longleng and Kiphire districts to strengthen and improve infrastructure and to empower people through capacity building and livelihood solutions.


Besides, the four backward districts of Eastern Nagaland, DUDA caters to other pockets of backward areas in the state.


Over the years, DUDA has made tangible achievements through its programme namely Under Developed Areas Programme (UDAP) and Border Area Development Programme (BADP).


Speaking on the occasion, Rio said the new directorate office building was completed at a total cost of Rs. 10.96 crore.


Expressing satisfaction with the quality of work, Rio was hopeful that the new directorate building will be the epicenter of various programmes and policies for the people of Eastern Nagaland as well as a collective voice to convey the needs and aspirations of the four districts.


Rio was also optimistic that the new building would motivate the officers to work with more commitment and take the developmental activities forward.


He said the intention of creating this department is to strengthen and overall development of Eastern Nagaland with special focus on infrastructure, roads, education sector, health sector and particularly to improve the living condition and the economy of the masses.


He maintained that over the years, DUDA has made tangible progress through its programmes like UDAP and BADP, covering 13 blocks and 135 villages.


He further highlighted that since the inception of the department, a number of programmes have been implemented like- UDAP, BADP, empowerment of underprivileged youth of Eastern Nagaland in collaboration with NIELIT wherein 1280 youths have been trained on computer education, coaching classes for HSLC students, development of Anghya brand & Anghya Marketing Network, etc.


Expressing hope that the department will come out with many more programmes that will empower the people of the ENPO areas and facilitate all-round development, Rio assured that the state government will provide every assistance possible towards the upliftment of the ENPO areas to bring the people of these districts at par with the rest of the state.


DUDA advisor N. Bongkhao Konyak thanked the chief minister for extending support by providing fund for the completion of this DUDA new directorate office building.


He said that Chief Minister’s vision and concern for the people of ENPO area propels him to always walk extra mile for the people of Eastern Nagaland.


“Under his (Rio) leadership, DUDA was created in 2003 to strengthen the infrastructure development and to improve the quality of life in Eastern Nagaland,” said DUDA advisor.


He said that under the leadership of Rio, the department has made tangible achievements and have impacted the people through various policies and programmes of the department.


Thanking ENLU for always standing up for the department with good advice and encouragement, he maintained that DUDA will be able to achieve new milestones only with the support of the ENLU and the people of ENPO area who are the stakeholders.


He also appealed each and every individual to extend continuous support to DUDA with innovative ideas and guidance “so that the backward areas of the state grows at par with the rest of the districts in the state.”
Earlier, chairing the function DUDA principal secretary Lhoubeilatuo Kire said the construction of the new directorate building was started in 2014. It was designed by architect Richard Belho and executed by contractor Neibu Rio.
