As the clock winds down to the largest exercise to segregate Indians from illegal settlers in Assam, a group of city-based indigenous Muslim lawyers have come together to help those who fail to make the cut in the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) list to be published on August 31. The lawyers, all practising in different courts within the city limits, will work pro bono to help those left out prepare for the lengthy legal battle ahead - starting with the Foreigners' Tribunal - as they try to establish their citizenship.
