The 2018 edition of the Hornbill International Music Festival (HIMF) is all set for stage at the Agri Expo Site, Dimapur from December 1 to 10.

The key attraction this year will be the K-Pop band MONT, who will take centre stage on December 4 in their pre-debut concert. The Korean boy band’s first teaser video garnered rave reviews and the band is being billed as the next big thing on the K-Pop stage.

Speaking at the press conference held today at Hotel Saramati Dimapur, LiveNow Events Director Atsung Jamir said that this year’s edition will bring Korean Pop, Electronic Dance Music (EDM), Blues, Christian Music and Rock – all on one stage.

Under the patronage of the Nagaland State Government and Music Task Force (MTF), the 10-day event will also feature the Hornbill International Rock Contest 2018, starting from December 5 to 7 with the prelims and concluding with the grand finale on December 8.

Altogether 24 bands, including five Nagaland bands will contest for the top-billed rock contest in the country. While four Nagaland bands qualified for the contest through auditions, Atsung said that the fifth – Stereotypes gets a wild card entry with Mizoram band Kroashia pulling out of the event. The other contesting bands are from Karnataka, Delhi, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Assam, Sikkim, Mizoram and Meghalaya.

December 9 will feature famed Shillong-based Blues Rock band Soulmate. With numerous national and international performances, Soulmate is a household name for fans of the genre.

Another key attraction, being held for the first time would be the Great Hornbill Guitar Ensemble featuring some of the top Naga guitarists. The Great Hornbill Guitar Ensemble will be on stage on December 3.

The HIMF will kick off with Nagaland Unleashed – a platform for the best upcoming bands from Nagaland.

Day 2 will witness Praise Sunday – an evening of Christian Music by some of the best Gospel bands and artistes from Nagaland. This concept was first introduced by LiveNow Events in the 2017 edition to provide a platform to talented Naga Christian Music bands and solo artistes.

Popular Nagaland band Lords of Rock (LOR) frontman Clement Imsong will host both the music festival and the rock contest.

The 10-day music festival will culminate in an EDM Nite with Ukranian DJ Siana Catherine on the console revving up the pitch. DJ Siana is one of the youngest DJs gaining fame in the international music world and playing to packed venues.

LiveNow Events is an event management company founded in 2015 by a group of young Naga entrepreneurs. This is the second time LiveNow Events has been chosen to organize and manage the HIMF and HIRC.

The schedule for the 10 day event are as follows: Day 1 – Nagaland Unleashed, Day 2 – Praise Sunday, Day 3 – The Great Hornbill Guitar Jamboree, Day 4 – K-Pop – MONT, Day 5 – Hornbill International Rock Contest (Prelims), Day 6 – Hornbill International Rock Contest (Prelims), Day 7 – Hornbill International Rock Contest (Prelims), Day 8 – Hornbill International Rock Contest Finale, Day 9 – Bues Nite – Soulmate, Day 10 – EDM Nite – DJ Siana Catherine.
