The 19th edition of Hornbill festival of Nagaland, starting from December 1, will feature around 11 additional events alongside the normal activities.
Some of the additional events include People’s festival at Khezhakeno, trekking and hiking to Mount Teyozwu, Dzukou Winter experience, traditional evening park at Kigwema, Kohima Heritage Walk, Rifle shooting competition, Nagaland Honeybee Day, Loom festival, Folk tune competition, hornbill Night Parade, Ist Hornbill Badminton Tournament etc.
People’s festival at Khezhakeno in Phek district will feature boating, hiking, angling, go cart, country ride, jungle ride etc.
Korean cultural team will also perform at the festival.
The state government has earmarked Rs. 5 crore for this year edition.
Stone pulling ceremony (Chiechama to Chiephobozou) in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of Northern Angami Youth Organization (NAYO) will also be another attraction of the festival.
This time too, the whole stretch of Naga Heritage Village Kisama will be “Plastic Free Zone” including Hornbill Night Bazar in Kohima city.
On Day 1, the inaugural function will be graced by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh at 3:30 pm while US Ambassador to India Kenneth I Juster will be the guest of honour.
Nagaland Governor P B Acharya and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will be the chief host and host respectively.
Rattle & Hum Music Society will manage the opening ceremony.
It may be recalled that the last 18th Hornbill festival registered a total of 2, 43, 214 visitors.
