Farmers-Scientists Interactions at Wokha

Wokha, December 2 (MExN): The Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Wokha conducted Farmers Scientist Interaction (FSI) on November 29 at fishery training hall Wokha. Chairing the programme, T Subenthung Yanthan deputy project director briefed about the various ATMA activities undertaken across the blocks and also various convergence programs held between ATMA, KVK and allied departments.

 

Short speech was delivered by Dr Santsoh Kumar Baishya Senior Scientist and Head KVK Wokha. He spoke on the various activities conducted by KVK in the district and urged the farmers to take part for doubling their income. He encouraged the farmers to get more acquainted with the KVK, ATMA and agriculture allied departments and to reach out for any kind of assistance in the form of trainings, demonstrations etc so as to impart the new methods developed through KVK.

 

Mhathung Odyuo, Agriculture Officer also exhorted the farmers to work hard and to undertake animal/poultry rearing as their residues can be a great source of organic manures to the crops instead of using various fertilizers or chemicals. Later Interaction session led by Yanglen Y Jami deputy project director was held where various queries and grievances were put forward by the farmers pertaining to fluctuation in prices of organic produce and inorganic produce, organic farming certification, animal and poultry rearing, SHG mobilization, pest and disease management of agricultural crops etc. The resource person comprising from ATMA, KVK and Agriculture department gave expert advice and answered to the farmers’ queries. Altogether 35 farmers comprising from Wokha, chukitong and wozhuro block attended the said programme. Vote of thanks was delivered by Loreni Kithan Assistant Technology Manager, a press release from ATMA informed.

 

In another session, Designate Expert Support was held where Dr Santsoh Kumar Baishya Senior Scientist and Head KVK Wokha held discussion hour with the ATMA functionaries. Various convergence programmes such as joint visits by scientists and extension functionaries, frontline demonstration were discussed and tentative dates were fixed for a follow up programmes in the days to come.
