In an unprecedented way of protest, an Assam Congress legislator slits his palm with a shaving blade at the entrance of the assembly and wrote a message to the government with his blood. The letter stated that Assamese people’s sentiments would not be allowed to be sold, in a direct reference to the Centre's move to amend the Citizenship Act of 1955 in order to give citizenship to non-Muslims from neighboring countries.
