The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) has decided to remove alternative English from the list of compulsory language papers for classes XI and XII, leaving students to study only a prescribed modern Indian language (MIL). The MILs are part of the core subjects, but general English will continue to remain a compulsory paper for all students.
