Northeast emerged as one of the main national subjects in President Ram Nath Kovind's budget speech in Parliament on Friday as he discussed issues ranging from Citizenship Amendment Act's (CAA) impact on the northeast to signing of the third Bodo accord and rehabilitation of Bru refugees from Mizoram in Tripura. Lauding both Houses of Parliament for enacting the CAA, the President said the process of granting citizenship to people of all religions remains unchanged but provisions have been introduced to ensure this "does not have any adverse cultural impact on any region, especially the northeast".
