Finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's fifth budget on Friday got the biggest applause from the tea industry for embarking on a 'tea mission' to ensure Assam's predominant position in the global tea industry with a focus on orthodox tea production by announcing a subsidy of Rs 7 per kg of orthodox tea. Sarma said the subsidy 'will cover 50% of the price gap from international prices'.
