The Assam flood situation remains alarming with over 45,000 people facing the deluge Sunday, mostly in upper and northern parts of the state, due to incessant rain. Mawsynram and Cherrapunji — the two wettest places on earth — experienced one of the rainiest days of the season in the last 24 hours with 38 and 29 cm rainfall respectively, said the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
