Even though six of the seven states in the northeast are experiencing deficit rain since the onset of the monsoon two months ago, the IMD said on Tuesday that heavy to extremely heavy rain would lash the region this week. Tourist hotspot Cherrapunji, is likely to receive the maximum rain, though 27% deficit rainfall has been recorded in Meghalaya since June 1.
