Phek, February 27 (MExN): The 14th Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK)-Phek was held on February 26 at KVK Conference hall.
The meeting was chaired by Dr Abhijit Mitra, Director, ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Medziphema. Dr Esther T Longkumer, Senior Scientist and Head I/C, KVK-Phek welcomed all the members of the SAC and presented the progress report of 2018-19.
Dr Rinku Bharali, ACTO (Horticulture) presented the annual action plan for the year 2019-20. Discussion and suggestions from members of the committee were held which included officials from district administration, agriculture and allied departments, NGOs and progressive farmers.
The chairman of the committee suggested infusing various need based and farm oriented technologies to agrarian community of the district. He reiterated that the farmers should have a sense of belongingness for the available resources rather than a subsidy oriented approach.
He emphasized on need based crop production, processing and marketing of the farmers produce. District Forest Office, Vetatso Demo, IFS emphasized on soil fertility management through low cost vermicomposting and protected cultivation. EAC, Pfutsero Abeinuo Jasmine Ashau suggested to undertake various climate resilient technologies as contingency measures during various vagary of nature. The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Dr Debojyoti Borkotoky, SMS (Animal Science) KVK-Phek.
