Three masterminds of a cyber criminal network running fake call centres in Guwahati have been arrested, while 191 others have been detained. The scammers impersonate tech support staff and cheat people by introducing "tech support" pop-ups in personal computers. They obtain personal information and dupe unsuspecting individuals of their money. The scammers also open fake toll-free numbers and recruit unemployed youths to engage in the scam. The scammers transact with victims using Bitcoins or gift vouchers, which they convert into Indian rupees through international hawala gangs.from
