In an effort to promote a healthier and fitter police force, the Assam Police in India conducted a Body Mass Index (BMI) test on all its personnel. The test revealed that over 2% of the 70,000-strong force is obese, with BMI readings over 30. These individuals will now undergo medical care, including testing for underlying medical conditions and receiving nutritional support, over the next three months. If they do not reduce their weight by the end of this period, they may be offered voluntary retirement, except for those with genuine medical reasons.
