The Manipur government has reconstituted its anti-narcotics task force (ANTF) to combat the illegal poppy cultivation in the state. The new task force, consisting of 18 members, has been formed based on the advice of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). The task force will be responsible for surveying, verifying, and destroying illegal poppy cultivation. Manipur, being close to the 'Golden Triangle' and the border with Myanmar, has been battling drug addiction and insurgency issues, which have contributed to the cultivation of poppy. The NCB has urged the ANTF to conduct ground verification and destruction operations promptly.
