Nagaland Medical College to be functional by 2020/2021

The Nagaland Medical College (NMC) in Kohima is expected to be functional by “2020/2021”.


Minister for Health and Family Welfare S Pangnyu Phom informed about this in response to a starred question raised by opposition MLA CL John on the third day of the ongoing Assembly Session.


On the fund for the upcoming Medical College, Phom said the Government of India has released Rs 153.03 crore of the total project cost of Rs. 189 crore to the state treasury so far.


He informed that out of the total fund of Rs 27.50 crore received from Finance Department and Rs 25 crore in Civil Deposit, Rs 1,21,74,000 has been incurred till date against the NMC.


Phom pointed out that the amount incurred was spent on fencing and several other infrastructures.


On whether the college will be run by the state government or through PPP mode, the Minister stated that the government will decide the model “only after due consultation with all stakeholders.”
