The Barak Upotyaka Banga Sahitya O Sanskriti Sammelan, the apex literary and cultural body of this south Assam valley, submitted separate memorandums to three deputy commissioners, demanding the use of Bengali language for administrative and other official purposes according to the Assam Official Language (Amendment) Act, 1961.
