CRC NNC elects new team of office bearers

Adinno says NNC cannot be blamed for Shillong Accord

PHEK, FEBRUARY 24 (MExN): The Chakhesang Regional Council (CRC) of the Naga National Council (NNC) recently elected a new team of office bearers led by Major (retired) Zhosapa Rhakho as President, Terilo Khütso as General Secretary and Veducholü Dzüdo as Women President.

A press release issued by the CRC, NNC informed that the team was administered the “Oath of Allegiance” at the CRC’s general meeting held on February 14 at Chokriba, Chokri Sub-Region, Phek. Other vacant posts will be filled at the earliest, it added.

As per the release, NNC President Adinno Phizo addressed some 2000 members, who attended the meeting.

The release said that Adinno, in her address, asserted the NNC’s stand on the signing of the Shillong Accord of 1975, while stating that it cannot be blamed. “A section of our people is blaming NNC as a part of ‘Shillong Accord’ and trying to weaken the NNC with the power of gun and money extorting from the people. But the truth will prevail.”

She maintained that the NNC was not a signatory to the Agreement as implied by the document, which had signatories signing only on behalf of “Representatives of the Underground Organisations” with no mention of any particular organisation.

“People also blamed us to have agreed to accept the constitution of India whereas the constitution of India then was suspended and emergency rule enforced in India.”

Stating that some “section of people” talks of others acknowledging the unique History of Nagas, but, she added, “the unique History of ours was not made in 1980.”

With regard to Article 371(A), she said that it is hailed as a “Special Provision.” However, “If Nagaland goes under the constitution of India, then that will be meaningless.”

Speaker of the Tatar Hoho, FGN Lhouvitsü and Killo Kilonser, FGN Shevohü Keyho also addressed the meeting.

The meeting further resolved to uphold the Naga Plebiscite of 1951 “remain independent,” upholding the “Foundation of our nation laid by A Z Phizo, father of the Naga Nation and the leadership of Adinno Phizo will be upheld” and “always seek God’s guidance and sincerely work for the nation.”
