NCD appeals NSCN (IM) to lift ban on Sunday market in Dimapur

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 24 (MExN): The Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) has appealed the NSCN (IM) to consider immediate lifting of the ban imposed on Sunday markets in and around Dimapur especially on perishable food items including meat, fishes, poultries, green vegetables etc in the interest of the general public.

A press statement issued by NCD vice president (administration), K Ghokheto Chophy lamented that the complete ban imposed on Sunday markets in and around Dimapur by the NSCN (IM) government based on the national principle of ‘Nagaland for Christ’ has affected the entire citizens of Dimapur district in a very negative manner.

It also observed that other district headquarters and towns in the State had been left out from such ban.

Pointing out that imposition of the ban targeting the only commercial centre of the State on the principle of ‘Nagaland for Christ’ seems unreasonable, the NCD argued that by such imposition, the entire consumers from Dimapur in particular is compelled to spend in terms of lakhs of rupees in the bordering areas like Dillai Gate, Lahorijan, Khak Khati and other adjacent markets under Assam just for daily essentials every Sunday.
