GoI must honour commitment before the LS election: UNTABA

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 24 (MExN): The United Naga Tribes Association on Border Areas (UNTABA) on Sunday said the invitation extended by the Nagaland Government to Naga civil society organizations to attend the consultative meeting organized for RN Ravi, Interlocutor to the Indo-Naga peace talks is just “an excuse for prolonging its inability in bringing a political settlement.”

Terming such exercise by the Government of India at this critical point of time as ludicrous, the UNTABA alleged that this is just to hoodwink the vulnerable Naga people to once again participate in the electioneering process leaving aside the most important issue at hand for Naga people which is the immediate political solution to the Indo-Naga political impasse.
It has therefore made a clarion call to all leaders of different tribes, associations and mass based civil societies to come to a single agenda and lay it down before the Interlocutor with the condition that unless the Government of India honours its commitment before the ensuing Lok Sabha election, the Naga people will boycott the election.

If such proposal was made to RN Ravi by consensus, and if he cannot give commitment, the apex Naga civil societies should consider for walk out, it suggested while adding that this is the “practical approach to adopt so as to achieve our aspirations.”
