Task Force constituted for road maintenance informs Nagaland PWD (R&B) Minister

The Nagaland Minister for Public Work Department (Roads & Bridges) Tongpang Ozukum on Saturday informed that a task force have been constituted Force in zones and circle for quality and maintenance of roads.


Maintenance is a part of the classification of road maintenance operation in the road maintenance policy, Ozukum informed the ongoing session of Nagaland Legislative Assembly, while replying to a question raised by MLA Dr. Chumben Murry on for quality control system set up to oversee departmentally executed works.


He also said that regular monitoring and inspection of the works are also being carried out by senior level officers of the department.


Ozukum said the department emphasized the use of good quality road construction materials.


On being asked what actions have been initiated for poor workmanship and quality of works against erring officials, he said instructions were issued to the Executive Engineers to rectify all defective works, which have been rectified.


The Minister also maintained that he has already directed all the Executive Engineers of the department to ensure that for clearing of roadside jungles, maintenance policy has been implemented till now.


The Minister informed that he has already directed the Additional Chief Engineer in-charge of Task Force in order to ensure that periodical checking are conducted and shall be brought to the notice of the government and will conduct monthly meeting with the task force in addition to the periodical implementation of roads within their own jurisdiction.


He also stated that so far during 2018-19, vital road connectivity from NH-29 at Burma camp to Lahorijan river with a major bridge of 30 meter span has been completed and 6 additional roads of 795 km stretch have been approved “in principle” to be brought under National Highways.


Another two laning of NH-02, Botsa-Wokha, Yisemyong to Unger and various improvement works at Kohima and Dimapur city portion road are taken up on war footing, he added.


Replying to supplementary question, the minister said that the repair works of district headquarter road is carried out departmentally.
