Dimapur, February 1 (MExN): Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, Kevekha Kevin Zehol felt that Dimapur district has to be a model district in taking the Intensive Pulse Polio Immunisation (IPPI) programme with a missionary commitment saying that it concerns the health of our people.
He said this during the Dimapur District Task Force Committee meeting held on February 1, in view of the upcoming IPPI and National Deworming day scheduled to be launched in the State. According to a DPRO Dimapur report, he also emphasized on the need for proper training of the health workers who would be administering the polio drops so that the purpose of the programme would be served.
District Programme Officer RCH/UIP Dr Rebecca informed that IPPI would be conducted on March 10, where children in the age group of 0-5 years of age would be immunized. She informed that 2076 team members including 102 supervisors would oversee and vaccinate the children covering 6 blocks under Medical Department of Dimapur district. Only a single round of IPPI would be conducted this year, she added.
Dr Rebecca further informed that National Deworming day has been slated for February 8 for addressing nutritional impairment, anemia, nausea, vomiting, weakness etc for adolescent children between 10 – 19 years of age. Those children who could not be dewormed on the slated day would be given another chance on February 14.
In the meeting, Project officer, UNDP, highlighted on the maintenance, storage, regulation of required temperature of the vaccines stating that such issues are taken care so that quality of the vaccines are not compromised.
The meeting held at the DC’s conference Hall Dimapur was attended by all the stakeholders including the Rotary club who are the official partner of IPPI programme.
