Kirti Azad, a leader of the opposition Trinamool Congress party, made comments on Twitter mocking Prime Minister Narendra Modi's traditional tribal attire while he was in Meghalaya. The state's chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, and two other state lawmakers, Conrad Sangma and Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu, slammed Azad's comments, saying they were an insult to the people of Meghalaya and the khasi tribe. Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress tweeted that it does not support Azad's comments, and that his remarks do not reflect the party's views.
