A woman from Tripura, 35 years old, had an emergency hysterectomy to remove her womb. She then had a successful bilateral ureteral reimplantation at a private hospital in Hyderabad. Ureteral reimplantation is a surgery to fix the tubes that connect the bladder to the kidney. The patient was treated by inserting nephrostomy tubes which are used to drain the urine directly from the kidneys to relieve her ureteric obstruction. Dr. Santosh, a urologist and renal transplant surgeon at the Slg hospital in Hyderabad, where the procedure was carried out, said the woman underwent an emergency hysterectomy at a hospital in Agartala after experiencing heavy menstrual bleeding known as menorrhagia. "After three days she was shifted to a local hospital as she had no urination at all she underwent bilateral nephrostomy as an initial procedure. It was only after this that her condition gradually improved and the creatinine level also returned to normal."
