The state of Assam has seen an 84% decrease in child marriage cases since the first crackdown in February, according to police. Only 710 cases have been registered during the second crackdown, compared to 4,500 cases in February. The Director General of Police, GP Singh, stated that the decline in cases is a positive sign and believes that with further efforts, child marriage will be eradicated in the state within the next two years. A total of 916 people have been arrested in the second crackdown, with Dhubri and Barpeta being the districts with the highest number of cases.
