A team of experts from the Unesco International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) visited the Ahom-era maidams in Charaideo district, Assam, as part of the site's bid for Unesco World Heritage status. The historic site is known for its pyramid-like mound burials of Ahom kings and queens and was the first capital of the Ahom kingdom. If selected, Charaideo will be the only cultural heritage site in the northeast region of India to receive this prestigious status.
