An expert from UNESCO International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) has visited the Ahom-era maidams in Charaideo, Assam, which are vying for UNESCO World Heritage status. The site is known for its pyramid-like mound burials of Ahom kings and queens and was the first capital of the Ahom kingdom. The expert and senior officials were given a traditional welcome and an exhibition has been arranged to showcase the history of the site. The expert will visit the maidam area and have discussions with stakeholders and residents.
