The Manipur government has asked people not to encroach upon private properties abandoned by displaced citizens during the ongoing strife in the state, citing an order by the Supreme Court. The court also directed the state government to protect religious buildings from encroachment and destruction. The government's order comes amid reports of properties being burnt, razed, or occupied by different communities. The government has asked local authorities to implement the Supreme Court's directions. Previously, the government had issued an order prohibiting the renaming of districts, subdivisions, and institutions without consent, to prevent conflict between communities.
