The Nagaland government has informed the Supreme Court that it has passed a bill reserving one-third of the seats in urban local bodies (ULBs) for women. The election process is expected to be completed by April 30, 2024. The court has ordered the framing of relevant rules within a month and set a hearing date for December 11. The passing of the Nagaland Municipal Bill, 2023, has paved the way for municipal elections in the state with women's quota provision for the first time in two decades.
