Former Chief Executive Member (CEM) and seven former Executive Members (EMs) of the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) were convicted for misappropriation of funds. Special judge HTC Lalrinchhana sent the convicts to jail for sentencing. The main accused, former CEM Buddha Lila Chakma, passed away before the conviction. Buddha Lila Chakma was initially disqualified from CADC membership due to defection, but the Gauhati High Court overturned the decision and ordered the CADC to pay him remuneration. The total amount given to Buddha Lila Chakma was Rs 63,34,914.
