A mentally-challenged Vietnamese man, who was incarcerated in Serchhip district jail, has been released and moved to the TNT Centre in Aizawl. The Centre for Environment and Social Justice, led by social activist Vanramchhuangi, facilitated his release and will act as his local guardian. The authorities in Serchhip district faced difficulties in extraditing him and reached out to the MEA and the Vietnam embassy. The man had entered Mizoram on foot during the pandemic and was initially denied entry in a village before finding shelter in East Lungdar village.
