Mokokchung, January 30 (MExN): Mokokchung District joined hands with the rest of India in observing the Anti-Leprosy day at Imlong Place, Mokokchung on January 30 under the leadership of Dr Temsuyanger ZLO.
The martyrdom day of Gandhi is celebrated every year as the Anti-Leprosy day all over India, stated a press release.
Under the theme “No stigma, discrimination and prejudice against those suffering from leprosy and those with deformities,” Dr Temsuyanger in his short speech said that the goal of the day was to raise awareness of the disease and also to mark the martyrdom day of Mahatma Gandhi who worked tirelessly to help the affected with the disease.
Speaking on the occasion, Manpai Phom ADC, Mokokchung said that Mokokchung has many floating population from outside and has high chances of imported cases of leprosy which has to be made aware to the general public on the measures to be taken. Anti-leprosy pledge was read by all present.
Deliberating on the different aspects of the disease Dr Kibangkumba Deputy CMO said leprosy can be cured by MDT (Multi Drug Therapy) and to ascertain that all affected persons are getting the necessary treatment.
The programme was chaired by Maongrenla, para-medical worker.
