Cabinet decision on CAB too little too late: NPCC

Dimapur, January 30 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) while welcoming the Nagaland State Cabinet’s decision to oppose and reject the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) 2016 however feared that this could be “too little too late.”

“After having voted for the CAB in Parliament and after repeatedly reiterating that the PDA Government does not oppose the Bill, what will be the method of withdrawal of support to the CAB with the new change in their stand? It appears they have failed to do their homework,” said a press note from NPCC President, K Therie.

The NPCC said that “such a flip-flop stand of the PDA Government has clearly exhibited that they cannot be trusted with the future of the people and it will not be beyond them to have changed their stand through mere lip service while pursuing to please their BJP driven agenda.”

If the PDA Government is sincere and committed in their stand to oppose and reject the CAB, the Congress suggested that the government “disassociate from the BJP and own moral responsibility for the costly mistake and take appropriate action as is deemed fit and proper.”
