Awareness prog for registration of artisans conducted

Proposal submitted for Craft Village project at Changtongya village

Changtongya, January 30 (MExN): Government of India Ministry of Textiles Handicraft awareness programme for registration of artisans at Changtongya was held on January 30 at Government High School Changtongya B Compound which was organised by Office of the Development Commissioner (H) Handicraft Service Centre (HSC) Kohima Nagaland with COHANDS, New Delhi- 66.


As per the DIPR report, Advisor, Industries and Commerce, NIDC, Imnatiba expressed his appreciation to T. Rollee Vareishim, Sr. Assistant Director (H) Handicraft Service Centre, Development Commissioner (Handicraft) GOI, Kohima for organising the awareness programme.


The Handloom and Handicraft sector constitute the second largest employment and income generator after the agriculture sector outside of the government employment in the state. The State Industries & Commerce Department has submitted a project proposal to the ministry for establishment of Craft Village project at Changtongya village. The objective of the project is to make traditional crafts an integral part of the tourism experience while also providing sustainable development for the artisans and people of the area economically. In modernizing the production process by inculcating the skilling required whereby productivity of the artisans and quality of the product are enhanced, he said.


The programme was chaired by Nungsangnenla, GT, welcome speech and vote of thanks were delivered by T. Lipokwati Ao, General Manager DIC, Mokokchung Nagaland and Rajib Chandra Roy, Handicraft Promotion Officer, Handicraft Service Centre, Kohima while invocation was pronounced by Rev. C. Manen Pastor NCRC Changtongya. Keynote note address was given by T. Rollee Vareishim, Sr. Assistant Director (H) Handicraft service centre, Development Commissioner (Handicraft) GOI Kohima.


Altogether 460 artisans were in attendance. Artisans under Mokokchung district who are willing to register can submit their forms on or before February 15 at DIC Office Mokokchung.
