Peace deal fetches BJP brownie point ahead of Lok Sabha polls

The recalcitrant anti-talks Ulfa(I) led by Paresh Baruah and the Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) remain the last stumbling blocks in Assam's road to a militancy-free era after four decades of living under the sword of armed insurrection. Friday's tripartite peace accord with the pro-talks Ulfa faction headed by Arabinda Rajkhowa fetched more than a brownie point ahead of the Lok Sabha elections next year. The Centre and the Assam government have successfully negotiated with the NDFB and other militant outfits, leading to their disbandment. The peace process with Ulfa has started, aiming to bring both factions to the negotiating table.
