Lecture on Dr T Ao held in Kiphire

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 23 (MExN): A lecture on Dr. Talimeren Ao in commemoration of his 100th birth anniversary was held at Hopongkyu memorial Hall, Kiphire on January 22.


The programme was organised by the Department of Youth Resource and sports in collaboration with the Department of Information and Public Relation and Health and Family Welfare.


District Sport Officer, Wutsutho gave a brief lecture on the life history of the legendary Naga footballer. He stated that Dr Ao, since childhood, showed promise in both sports and academics. He was the first captain of the Indian football team in 1948 at London. He was also the flag bearer of the Indian contingent at the Wembley Stadium, London. Dr. T. Ao also became the first Director of health service. He passed away on September 13, 1998.


Dr. Holiba Sangtam meanwhile emphasised on physical, mental and social aspects in one’s life. He said that players should be fit in physically so that it allows muscles to function properly and also prevent them from disease. Mentally, players who are suffering from depression also recover because of interest in football and other games, he said.


Socially, he added that every player must have good behaviour in the field and maintain discipline. He also spoke on awareness for youth regarding drinking alcohol and other intoxicants.
